HM Shah Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlevi of Persia, now Iran

Shah Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlevi of Persia, now Iran

The Shah can be seen wearing the St. Olav Grand Cross with the Collar awarded in 1961. The Insignia of the Order is not correctly worn since the Collar and the Sash are not to be used together. When wearing the Collar, the Cross (badge) is to be attached to the front suspension point of the Collar instead of the Sash as in this case. With the revolution and the subsequent fall of the Pahlevi reigning, the Collar was reportedly seized by the authorities and melted down for its 18 carat gold content. The Shah is also wearing the Grand Cross Star of the Order of Pahlevi, Persia's highest Order.
